HMONG / LAOTIAN MINISTRY June 12 2009
God is true to his promises. If we go out with his life-giving
Word about Jesus our Savior, he will change hearts and bring in
a harvest of souls. Evangelist P., supported by the Russell Buck
Fund, made his second trip to Laos this past May (2009). He met
with eight Christian leaders (men in their 50’s,60’s,
and 70’s) who have kept the name of Jesus alive and well
since communism took over the area in 1975. With one Bible among
them, they had quietly and carefully shared God’s Word with
many families – young and old. Unfortunately, Evangelist
P. was not able to purchase additional Bibles and distribute them
(it was not safe to do so). But God opened hearts to the Word
– 312 people were baptized as Evangelist P. traveled from
home to home. These were the first known baptisms in southern
Laos since 1975. Praise God for saving lost souls!
The trip cost $8,000. Which included: Food, transportation (air
fare and cab fare for long distances), the purchase of two motorcycles,
the purchase of a computer, and development of over 75 pictures
(one picture of each family baptized), and some money was left
behind ($278) to purchase Bibles and Christian materials should
it become safe to do so. It is hoped that enough money will be
available some day to hook up the computer to the internet and
begin teaching Bible Lessons to Christian leaders as soon as possible.
The internet is expensive in Laos.
Please note that for the safety of all involved the Russell Buck
website will no longer refer to the local church supporting this
ministry or the names of the evangelist involved. Obviously, we
do not want the Laotian government discovering Christians in their
country and then attempting to find names and pictures of their
leaders, and others who support them. A few pictures of local
Christians might be shared in the future. The picture of the computer
and motorcycle, and young man who knows how to “hook up”
the computer will most likely be shared.
Without your prayers and financial support no one would be supporting
these new Christians in Laos. May God keep them on our hearts
each day. God is with them, and they take great comfort and courage
knowing that some in America still love them too.
Your Servant in Christ,
Pastor W.
